fading brand
So my brand is supposed to be pessimism, but I'll confess that since young Mr. Willem began to smile, it is becoming very hard for me to stick to brand. And now there is this news about Dave and Mark Pilgrim collaborating about standards. That is indeed wonderful news.

Careful. All that item says in terms of _collaboration news_ is:
"Feeling mellow today, I picked up the phone and called Mark Pilgrim, and said we should work together."
We don't know what Mark said in response 1/2 :-). Or how long it could last 1/2 :-)
There's been times I've proposed collaborating with former adversaries, and been rebuffed, and times I've not trusted proposals from former adversaries.
Note, to address something pre-emptively, you and Declan McCullagh aren't a good example here. Those were/are arguments which could be classified as both your "business", with no real harm done to either side.
Hi Seth and thanks Larry.
Sometimes it pays to hear what you want to hear. You never know. My mother taught me this. When we went bowling and I'd make a mistake and score the wrong frame, she'd say don't worry about it, maybe that's what you'll bowl.
Gris gris is powerful stuff. And users are equally powerful. If enough users decided that Mark and I should collaborate, it would be hard to avoid the collaborating!
Perhaps you'll get your pessimism back the first time you go to sing "Happy Birthday" to Willem. ;-)
p.s. Glad to see you'll be a regular in Wired
Or maybe when Willem goes nuts over Mickey merchandise :-)
Impossible.
Are there such things as hopeful pessimists? Pessimists who attempt change? or pursue seemingly impossible goals for the greater good?
I have met pessimists. You, sir, are not among them.
You know of course that babies start smiling just when parents have reached the end of their rope and are about ready to kill them! It's a survival adaptation.
