how to buy a free book

I wrote at the end of last month about Mark Cooper's new book, Media Ownership and Democracy in the Digital Information Age, which is available for free download under a Creative Commons license. It's also available from Amazon. Mark was slow to get me the link because he said he didn't want to "compete with free." But free complements nonfree, and if you like what you read, buy it from Amazon.

Since the entire book is already available to free, one wonders why there wouldn't be sample pages to view through Amazon. It also seems that he doesn't participate in the new search inside the book feature?

I had a chance to see Mark speak at the Media Reform Conference up in Madison. Good stuff. The guy's so hell-bent on "free" that he even gave away a hard copy of the book to each registrant. It is nice to see someone so excited about their words that they are willing to give them away at no charge. Are we going to see CC out of your next piece, Larry?

And it's good, too. Ok, at least the beginning is good. He really tears apart Chairman Powell's statements, although honestly that may not be that hard.

By entering the words in the box, you are also helping to digitize texts that were written before the computer age. The words that you see were taken directly from old texts that are being scanned and stored by the Internet Archive. This CAPTCHA helps proofread the books. If the sample is too hard to read, click the recycle button to get another two. A space between each word is required. And thanks for the comment and help.
