Maybe. Maybe not. It could just be good cop-bad cop. Laura stays above the fray. Karen goes out and knee-caps people. It's really a Bush family tradition.

Shrewd?

It was classy. THK is an arrogant jerk so often - she didn't *forget* that Laura was a teacher (I'm sure THK's press person has mentioned it and everywhere Laura and THK go they get asked about the other). The reality is that THK is an insensitive member of the wealthy elite. Laura could have said a lot and no one would have blamed her. But she didn't. Good for her.

I can understand Teresa Kerry's memory lapse. To be honest, aside from being the heir to the Heinz fortune, I don't know all that much about Mrs. Kerry.

I hope she wouldn't take it seriously, because it's not that big compared to all the other politician tricks. Just recall the slurs aimed at fellow Republican John McCain's family when they went up against Bush. Salon article and radio analysis. Quick analysis from McCain's campaign manager.

There were attacks against his wife's problem with prescription drugs before it was made fashionable by Limbaugh, implications he fathered an illegitimate black daughter (she was adopted from Mother Teresa's orphanage in Bangladesh), and so on.

I recall Colin Powell claiming he's not running for president because his wife won't allow that to happen to his family. ;)
