Off the grid

Since my kid was born, we've tried to have a month alone off the grid. That starts this year in 6 hours. I have not asked anyone to guest blog while I'm gone, so this space will be quiet. There are a couple times when I might make a surprise return (they're all preprogrammed). But my apologies for the silence otherwise. This year has been an especially burdensome year. We really need this time alone.

Congratulations on the kid and taking time off. This is a actually a very sensible blog as kids should always come first. Thank you for a great website and blog and enjoy the time off.

So does "off the grid" mean "no telecommunications," or does it go so far as to include "no electricity," or even "no newspapers"?

enjoy a well-earned break with your wife and son, professor.

You will be missed. However, you are setting a great example.

Take care and good luck with recharging.

I think we all need time off the grid, kid or no kid. But bests to you and your family.

you are pretty much "off the grid" anyway, it's not like you're huey p. newton!!!

I think this a great idea to take time off for your family, I wish all people would do the same. Well hope to see you in about 4 weeks and read up what you have been thinking about and your travels, make sure to take some pictures.

Glad to know about it.

Larry - I was so glad to read that you are taking time off to be "just" a Dad. Years ago, when I had to work some mandatory overtime (an evil like no other) my son, who was 7 at the time, gave it to me straight: "Mom, you can work and work, but you can never buy back your life." Rather sage advice from one so young. I hope he remembers it!

I think we should have a rest. It is necessary for every human. We should remember one thing - we are working to live, so if we haven't get time for "live" - work has no sence. Thanks.

We can provide cheap rohan gold for you. So you may as well come here to look at.
